Acupuncture
with Maureen Jordan
I found acupuncture myself back in 1997 when I wanted to know more about what alternative therapies had to offer.
Out of sheer curiosity, I made an appointment to see an acupuncturist. My friend was getting acupuncture and he had nothing but good things to say about it. When I got off the table from that first acupuncture treatment, I could not believe how deeply relaxed I felt; it was a most unexpected and pleasant experience!
I was sold. Instantly.
The scope of acupuncture’s healing effects was crystallized for me when I unexpectedly needed a major medical procedure months later. I used acupuncture not only to prepare me, but also to help me recover more quickly and painlessly.
These experiences became the motivating factor for me to make a career change and pursue my studies of this 3,000 year old healing system. It was certainly a sea change to transition from legal work to studying Chinese medicine. If I was going to start from scratch again, I knew this journey would be worth it, because I would never be bored by what this medicine could teach me.
I found an unexpected joy in being able to help my family and friends with their issues. Whether helping my 7 year old nephew find relief from his tummy aches and head colds, to treating the radiation and chemo side effects that a dear friend was experiencing as she went through rigorous cancer treatments, I couldn’t believe I got to be the lucky person who could offer something that was so immediate, and so gentle.
I want to be able to share with others what this powerful medicine has to offer.
I’ve been practicing since 2003. I’ve had the good fortune and unique opportunity to be a staff acupuncturist at a large public health acupuncture clinic at Harvard University in Boston, and I have been working there since 2017. Over those years of administering thousands of treatments, I have had the opportunity to address many and varied conditions and issues.
Now, I want to come back to private practice here on the south shore of Boston.
I continue to be fascinated and inspired by the transformative yet subtle nature of this medicine.
